    1. Contact us

    Contact our sales team by visiting our offices, via telephone, email to sales@carimports.co.ke or submit a query right here online.

    We will assign you a car imports specialist who will guide you in selection of a vehicle and support you via the entire import process.

    2. Vehicle purchase

    Once you have agreed on vehicle specifications and budget with our car imports specialist, we will proceed to identify a suitable vehicle, inspect it and purchase from auctions in Japan.

    You will sign a sales contract detailing all terms and conditions for the vehicle import.

    3. Shipping

    Upon successful purchase, we will receive vehicle from auction house, deregister it from Japan, conduct roadworthiness inspection and then transport it to the shipping docks.

    Your vehicle will leave Japan between 2 and 3 weeks from date of purchase and the vessel will take approx 4 weeks on the high seas to reach Mombasa port.

    4. Mombasa port clearance

    You will pay import duty to Kenya revenue authority once vehicle has been received at the clearing terminal (CFS) in Mombasa. Once vehicle has been cleared and registered in Mombasa, we will transport it to Nairobi via a vehicle carrier.

    The clearing and transport process will require one week.

    5. Vehicle delivery

    Once car has been cleared in Mombasa, we shall deliver the vehicle to you as per agreement.

    If your vehicle is financed via bank loan, we will deliver the car to your after your bank has processed the loan. Most banks take an average of about one week to process a car loan.

Payments procedure

  • Import

    1st Instalment (10% CIF): Purchase deposit paid to our local Ksh or USD account to enable inspection and bidding. Refundable if purchase is unsuccessful. The JPY conversion rate used will be shown on your invoice.


    2nd Instalment (40% CIF): Remitted directly to Japan in JPY upon vehicle arrival at the export yard. Photos taken at the yard will be shared for your review before you make the remittance.


    3rd Instalment (50% CIF): Remitted directly to Japan in JPY before the vessel docks in Mombasa.


    Note: To save on remittance costs, clients are free to combine the 2nd and 3rd instalments.


    EV Advisory: Electric Vehicles require 100% CIF payment before shipping from Japan due to container logistics.


    4th Instalment (Import Duty): Paid directly to KRA once the vehicle is received at the Mombasa terminal.


    Final Instalment: Local balance (Clearance & Transport) paid in Ksh upon vehicle delivery and inspection in Nairobi.

Bank account details

All remittances should be made to the designated bank account in the invoice. The bank account details will be specified in the invoice and sales agreement. Payment currency options are Ksh, USD or JPY for respective payments
