The Toyota Hilux is a series of
pickup trucks manufactured by Toyota from the year 1968.
However, in 1984, Toyota introduced a mid-sized SUV called the Toyota Hilux
Surf in Japan, and in South East Asia (and known in the Americas as the Toyota
Trekker).
In 1988, Toyota introduced another mid-sized SUV called the Sport Rider sold
only in Thailand.

Hilux Series
From 2005, the Toyota Hilux Surf was replaced in South East Asia
by the Toyota Fortuner; the Toyota Hilux Surf was discontinued in Japan in
2009.
Regarding the pickup trucks in North America, the name Toyota Hilux was replaced
in 1976 by "Toyota Truck".1984 was the inception of the Camper truck
commonly known as the Trekker. It consisted of a fiberglass tub, bed sides, a fixed
canopy and a rear hatch.
This eventually led to the 4Runner model.
Then, 1995 saw the inception of the all new Tacoma in North America. This led
to the discontinuation of the Toyota Hilux Pick-up line.
The production of the Toyota Hilux pickup was taken to Thailand from August
2004. The body came in three variants which were; a two-door Single Cab, a
two-door X-tra Cab, and four-door Double Cab.
The Hilux Vigo "Champ" began in Thailand in August 2012 as a new
Toyota Hilux pick up featuring a front design and a luxurious interior. It is
available in both single cab and double cab varieties.
In 2017, we saw the re-introduction of the Toyota Hilux Pickup in Japan after
13 years of absence. The Hilux pickups sold in Japan are imported direct from
Thailand. They only come in double cab version, 4WD grades X and Z. They are
automatic in transmission, with 2.4 litre diesel engines. It is called, the
Toyota Hilux Revo.
