The Big Picture
The 2020 Toyota Spade (Final Edition) is the car that asks: "Why have two doors when one giant one will do?" Production ended in December 2020, making these the last available units of this unique MPV. Its defining feature is the massive electric sliding door on the passenger side (1,020mm wide) which allows passengers to walk in upright. It shares its platform with the Toyota Porte and Vitz.

Engine Options & Model Codes
By 2020, the 1.3L was mostly phased out for the superior 1.5L:
-
1.5L (2NR-FKE): 109 HP. STANDARD This modern engine uses VVT-iE (electric motor variable valve timing) for better response and efficiency. It is robust, reliable, and paired with a CVT.
Interior & Practicality
- The Magic Door: The passenger side has one huge sliding door. The front passenger seat slides back and forth by 700mm! This allows you to create a massive space for carrying tall items or simply stretching out.
- Flat Floor: The floor is completely flat, making it easy to move between seats or load items. Perfect for elderly passengers or parents with child seats.
Fuel Efficiency & Ownership Costs
- Consumption: 16–18 km/l. The 2NR engine is very efficient.
- Service: Parts are interchangeable with the Toyota Porte, Vitz, and Axio. Maintenance costs are rock bottom.
- Door Motor: The electric sliding door motor is the only complex part. Keep the tracks clean of sand and dust to prevent failure.
Suitability for Kenyan Roads
City Only: At 130mm clearance, it is quite low. The long wheelbase (for its size) means it can scrape on high speed bumps. It is best suited for urban environments. The suspension is soft and comfortable.
Safety & Reliability
The Final Edition includes Toyota Safety Sense C (Pre-collision, Lane Departure Alert). Reliability is typical Toyota—it will likely outlast its owner.

The Ci Verdict
Who is this for? Families with small children or elderly parents who need the easiest possible access. Who is it NOT for? Drivers who want to corner fast—the tall body leans heavily.
