⚠️ The AdBlue (DEF) Warning
The new 1GD-FTV Diesel engine requires Diesel Exhaust Fluid (AdBlue) to run. This is a first for many Kenyan Toyota owners.
- The Warning: The dashboard will warn you 2,400km before empty. Do not ignore it.
- The Consequence: If the tank hits 0%, the engine enters "No Start" mode. You will need a tow truck.
- The Strategy: Buy a 10L AdBlue canister (approx Ksh 2,500) and top up every service. Keep an emergency bottle in the car for long trips.

Suspension Tech: SDM Explained
The Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM) is a button found on high-spec models (ZX/First Edition).
- On Tarmac: Keep it connected. It reduces body roll, making the J250 handle surprisingly flat for a tall SUV.
- Off-Road: Push the button to disconnect the front sway bar. This allows the front wheels to drop further into holes (articulation), keeping your tires on the ground for traction.
Ownership Costs & Security
Being a new model, parts availability is low and theft risk is high.
- Headlights: The round LED lights are unique to the First Edition/ZX. If stolen, replacement will take weeks to import. Rivet them immediately.
- Windshield: The J250 uses advanced ADAS cameras. A replacement windshield must be Original Toyota (~Ksh 100k) to calibrate correctly.
- Tires: First Edition models come on 20-inch wheels. Tires are expensive (~Ksh 45k each). For rough roads, consider downgrading to 18-inch wheels with A/T tires.
