Review: NISSAN GT-R for Sale in Kenya

Reliability, specs, and current market pricing.

Nissan GT-R: A Carimports.co.ke Review

The Big Picture

The Nissan GT-R, nicknamed "Godzilla," is a high-tech Japanese supercar that has built a legendary reputation for its ability to destroy more expensive supercars. It combines a massively powerful twin-turbo V6 with a highly advanced all-wheel-drive system to deliver brutal, physics-defying performance. It is a technological tour de force.

Engine, Performance & Economy

The GT-R is powered by a hand-built 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, producing a colossal amount of power. Paired with a lightning-fast dual-clutch transmission and a complex AWD system, its acceleration is famously explosive, hitting 0-100 km/h in under 3 seconds. Fuel economy is not a consideration, at around 6-8 km/l.

Design & Practicality

The GT-R's design is functional and aggressive, dictated by aerodynamics. It's a large and heavy car. Surprisingly, it is a 2+2 coupe, so it has two small rear seats that can be used for children, making it more practical than a strict two-seater supercar.

Ground Clearance: ~110 mm

Comfort & Technology

The interior is focused on performance. A key feature is the multi-function display designed by Polyphony Digital (the creators of the Gran Turismo video game), which shows detailed performance data. The ride is very firm.

Safety & On-Road Stability

The GT-R's incredible stability comes from its advanced ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system, which can precisely control power to each wheel, providing immense levels of grip.

Reliability & Maintenance

The GT-R's engine and transmission are incredibly strong but are also highly stressed performance components. They require meticulous, specialist maintenance at very short intervals. Running costs are extremely high, similar to other supercars.

Estimated Import Cost for a 2018 Nissan GT-R

(These estimates are for a direct import of a 2018 model with low mileage and a Japanese auction grade of 4 or higher. The import duty is calculated using the official KRA valuation template.)

Duty-Paid Estimate (3.8L V6 Premium Edition):
  • Estimated CIF to Mombasa: KSh 9,000,000 - KSh 11,000,000
  • Taxes & Fees (KRA + NTSA): ~ KSh 4,337,000
  • Clearing & Port Handling (excl. RDL/IDF): ~ KSh 120,000
  • Total Estimated On-the-Road Price: KSh 13,457,000 - KSh 15,457,000

Long-Term Ownership Costs

  • Insurance: Expect to pay upwards of KSh 450,000 per year.
  • Servicing: All servicing is extremely expensive and requires a top-tier performance specialist.

The Ci Verdict

The Nissan GT-R is a legend. It offers a level of straight-line performance that can embarrass supercars costing twice as much. While it is incredibly expensive to buy and run, it is a technological marvel and a true icon of Japanese engineering.
