The 2022 Audi RS3 (8Y) is the last of its kind. As the world goes electric, Audi kept the legendary 2.5L 5-Cylinder Turbo alive for one last dance. Launched in 2021, this 3rd Generation model fixes the main complaint of its predecessor (understeer) by adding the RS Torque Splitter rear differential. It allows this hatchback (or sedan) to drift like a rear-wheel-drive car. It is a baby supercar with 5 doors.

The heart of the beast:

• 2.5L TFSI (DAZA/DNWA): 400 HP / 500 Nm. STANDARD The 5-cylinder engine has a unique firing order (1-2-4-5-3) which creates a warbling sound reminiscent of the Audi Quattro rally cars of the 80s. It pairs with a 7-speed S-Tronic (DSG).

• RS Runway: The Virtual Cockpit features an "RS Runway" tachometer design. Carbon fiber trim is standard. The steering wheel is Alcantara (optional) and feels fantastic.
• Daily Usable: It is still an A3. It fits 4 adults and has a 282-Litre boot (smaller than standard A3 due to the rear diff). It is perfectly usable for school runs.

• Consumption: 7–9 km/l. If you use the performance, it drops to 4 km/l. It needs 98 RON fuel (V-Power) strictly.
• Service: Brakes are massive (Carbon Ceramic optional). Replacing steel discs alone is expensive. Tyres (usually Pirelli P Zero) are wider at the front (265) than the rear (245) on some setups to aid turn-in—this reverse stagger is unique.
• Rear Diff: The torque splitter has two multi-plate clutches. Fluid changes are critical.

Drift Mode: The RS Torque Rear mode directs power to the outside rear wheel, allowing controlled slides. On the road, this translates to zero understeer. Clearance is very low (approx 120mm). Approach speed bumps at an angle.

5-Star Euro NCAP. The 5-cylinder engine is robust and capable of high mileage if maintained. The DSG gearbox is the weak point if launch control is abused repeatedly.
