The 2023 Mazda CX-60 is Mazda's bold step into the luxury segment. Built on a rear-wheel-drive platform, it targets the BMW X3 and Volvo XC60. It is powerful, stunning to look at, and finally offers a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) option for Kenya.

The 3.3L Straight-Six Diesel is a masterpiece, offering massive torque and 18 km/l economy. The 2.5L PHEV is fast (0-100 in 5.8s) and can drive on electric power alone for city commutes. The 8-speed automatic is new and engaging.

The long hood and short overhangs give it a sports car stance. Inside, it is slightly wider than the CX-5, offering better shoulder room. Ground clearance is decent, but the sport suspension is firm on rough roads.

The interior uses unique materials like maple wood and woven fabrics ("Kakenui"). The Driver Personalization System uses facial recognition to set your seat position automatically. It is a tech-fest.

It introduces "Kinematic Posture Control" which reduces body roll in corners. 5-star safety ratings are standard. It feels heavy and solid at speed.

Being a new model with a new platform, long-term reliability is unproven. The 8-speed gearbox has had some early software updates. Ensure any import has a full service history.

Parts are currently rare and expensive. You will rely on direct imports or the main dealer for service items. Body panels are not yet available in the aftermarket.

Too early to tell, but high-end Mazdas generally depreciate faster than Toyotas. Buy it for the drive, not the resale.
