2025 Nissan Fairlady Z: A Carimports.co.ke Review
The Big Picture
The 2025 Nissan Fairlady Z (RZ34), known simply as the "Nissan Z" in export markets, is a love letter to the past. Launched in 2022 to replace the 14-year-old 370Z, it ignores the hybrid trend entirely. It combines the silhouette of the original 1969 240Z with the taillights of the 1990 300ZX (Z32). Under the long hood lies a Twin-Turbo V6 and, crucially, an available 6-speed manual gearbox. It is a pure, analog sports car in a digital world.
Quick Specs
Engine Options & Model Codes
One engine, two transmission choices:
- 3.0L Twin-Turbo V6 (VR30DDTT): 400 HP / 475 Nm. STANDARD This engine, borrowed from the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport, brings forced induction back to the Z. It is punchy, with peak torque from just 1,600 rpm.
- NISMO Version: 420 HP. Tweaked engine management and cooling for track use. Automatic transmission only (9-speed Jatco).
Interior & Practicality
- Analog Dials: While it has a digital cluster, the Z retains the signature triple analog gauge pods on top of the dashboard (Boost, Turbo Speed, Voltage).
- Strict 2-Seater: There are no rear seats. The boot is shallow (241 Litres) and warm due to the exhaust routing. You can fit a couple of soft bags, but golf clubs require creative Tetris skills.
Fuel Efficiency & Ownership Costs
- Consumption: 8–10 km/l. Not bad for 400HP, but expect 5 km/l if you enjoy the boost.
- Service: The VR30 engine is reliable but runs hot. High-quality synthetic oil and regular changes are mandatory. The 9-speed auto (Mercedes-based) is robust.
- Tyres: Bridgestone Potenza S007. Wide rear tyres (275/35R19) provide grip but are pricey to replace.
Suitability for Kenyan Roads
Grand Tourer: The suspension is tuned more for street compliance than track stiffness. It handles bumps better than a Supra. However, the low nose (approx 120mm clearance) means you must take speed bumps diagonally. It is a weekend car for the smooth tarmac of the Southern Bypass.
Safety & Reliability
Comes with Automatic Emergency Braking and Blind Spot Warning—tech the old 370Z never dreamed of. Reliability of the chassis (an evolution of the FM platform) is bulletproof.

The Ci Verdict
Who is this for? The enthusiast who grew up playing Gran Turismo and wants a pure, manual, rear-wheel-drive experience before they go extinct. Who is it NOT for? Badge snobs who think 10M is too much for a Nissan—buy a Cayman instead.
