The 2024 Nissan Kicks (often listed as "KIX" in Japanese auctions) is the electric car that doesn't need charging. This P15 Facelift model features Nissan's 2nd Generation e-POWER system. Unlike hybrids like the Toyota Aqua, the Kicks is 100% motor-driven. The petrol engine is merely a generator. This gives you the instant torque and silence of an EV, with the range of a petrol car. In Kenya, it is rapidly replacing the Juke as the funky, urban crossover of choice.

The e-POWER system is the only option for JDM imports:

• 1.2L e-POWER (HR12DE + EM47 Motor) STANDARD
  136 HP / 280 Nm. The petrol engine *never* drives the wheels. It simply spins to charge the small 2.06 kWh battery. The result is linear, silent acceleration similar to a 2.0L Turbo engine, but with 30% better fuel economy.

• Zero Gravity Seats: Nissan's fatigue-reducing seats are standard. They are genuinely comfortable for long trips to Naivasha.
• e-Pedal Step: You can drive using only the accelerator pedal. Lifting off provides strong regenerative braking (slowing the car down), which recharges the battery. It reduces leg strain in Nairobi jams.

The 2024 model features a revised center console with a smaller gear selector and a larger infotainment screen. Many units come with the Intelligent Rear View Mirror (camera feed), which is great if you load the boot to the roof.

• Consumption: 23–25 km/l. This is not a theoretical figure; it is achievable in real-world driving because the engine runs at its most efficient RPM constantly.
• Service: The petrol generator needs standard servicing (oil/plugs). There is no gearbox oil to change (reduction gear only). Brake pads last forever due to regenerative braking.

• Clearance: 170 mm. It is strictly a crossover. It handles speed bumps well but is not built for deep ruts.
• e-POWER 4WD: (Optional) Some units have a rear motor. This provides excellent stability on loose murram roads, reacting faster than mechanical 4WD systems.

Standard ProPILOT (Adaptive Cruise Control) makes highway driving effortless. Reliability of the 2nd Gen e-POWER system is solid, with fewer inverter issues than the early Note e-POWER.
