The 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQB (X243 Facelift) is a unicorn: it is the only compact luxury electric SUV that offers 7 seats. Based on the GLB, it swaps the petrol engine for a battery pack without losing the boxy practicality. Launched in 2021 and facelifted in 2024 with a new star-pattern black grille, it is the perfect EV for the Kenyan school run.

The 2024 update optimized range:

• EQB 250+ (FWD): 190 HP. RECOMMENDED The "Plus" model uses a new 70.5 kWh battery for maximum range (up to 536km WLTP). It is front-wheel drive and offers sufficient power for city use.
• EQB 350 4MATIC (AWD): 292 HP. Dual motors give it 4WD traction and 0-100 in 6.2s. Range drops to ~448km.

• 7 Seats: The 3rd row is strictly for people up to 1.65m tall (ideal for kids). When folded flat, you get a massive cargo area. The boxy roofline ensures great headroom.
• MBUX: Twin 10.25-inch screens dominate the dash. The "Electric Intelligence" navigation calculates charging stops (though less useful in Kenya currently).

• Real World Range: Expect 400-450km in the EQB 250+. Nairobi to Naivasha and back is possible on one charge.
• Charging: 100kW DC charging (10-80% in 32 mins). 11kW AC charging at home takes overnight.
• Service: Tyres wear faster due to EV weight and torque. No oil changes needed.

Battery Clearance: At 154mm, clearance is similar to a sedan. You must be careful with the floor-mounted battery on high speed bumps. It is not an off-roader despite the SUV shape.
