The 2024 Audi SQ5 is the sleeper of the SUV world. First launched in 2013 as the first "S" model SUV, this 2nd Generation (FY, launched 2017) refines the formula. While the standard Q5 is a sensible family car, the SQ5 adds a turbocharged V6 and Adaptive Air Suspension (standard on most imports). It offers a Jekyll and Hyde personality: quiet luxury cruiser on the way to the office, roaring sports car on the way to Naivasha.

In Kenya (via UK/Japan/Singapore), you will mostly find the petrol version:

• 3.0L TFSI V6: 349 HP / 500 Nm. STANDARD This single-turbo V6 (EA839) is shared with the Audi S4 and Porsche Macan. It provides instant throttle response and a purposeful exhaust growl.
• 3.0L TDI V6 (Euro Spec): 341 HP / 700 Nm. Some UK imports may be diesel. Offers monstrous torque and better fuel economy but requires very clean diesel and AdBlue.

• Carbon Atlas: The SQ5 interior features real carbon fiber trim and diamond-stitched leather seats. The Virtual Cockpit (digital dash) has specific "S" layouts with a central tachometer.
• Physical Buttons: Unlike the newer Q8, the SQ5 retains physical dials for climate control—a huge plus for usability while driving.

• Consumption: 8–10 km/l. If you drive aggressively, expect 6 km/l. It is a performance car, after all.
• Service: The 8-speed Tiptronic (ZF) gearbox is robust but needs fluid changes. Brake pads and discs are larger than the standard Q5 and cost significantly more.
• Tyres: usually on 20 or 21-inch wheels. Low profile tyres are prone to damage on potholes.

Air Suspension: The standard air suspension allows you to raise the ride height for rough patches ("Offroad" mode) or lower it for highway stability ("Dynamic" mode). This versatility makes it much better suited to Kenya than the stiffly-sprung BMW X3 M40i.

5-Star Euro NCAP rating. Quattro AWD provides immense grip in the wet. The EA839 engine is generally reliable, but ensure the water pump and thermostat housing are checked during major services.
