The 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge is a statement of intent. It is the first Volvo model designed purely as an electric vehicle, with no petrol or diesel option. Essentially a coupe version of the XC40, it features a sloping roofline and a unique rear light signature. It is also the first Volvo to be completely leather-free, using high-tech textiles instead. It combines Scandinavian minimalism with serious electric performance.

Two powertrains determine the character:

• Single Motor (FWD/RWD): 231 HP / 69 kWh. STANDARD The 2023 update switched this from Front-Wheel Drive to Rear-Wheel Drive for better efficiency and handling. Range approx 420km.
• Twin Motor (AWD): 408 HP / 78 kWh. A rocket ship. 0-100 in 4.7s. It offers huge traction and slightly more range (due to the bigger battery), but consumes more energy.

• Topography Trim: The dashboard trim features a translucent, backlit map of the topography of Abisko National Park in Sweden. It glows at night and looks incredible.
• Google Built-in: Like the XC40, it runs Android Automotive OS. Google Maps is native and predicts charge levels at destination with high accuracy.

• Range: Real-world Nairobi range is ~350-400km for the Single Motor. The Twin Motor suffers slightly if you enjoy the acceleration.
• Charging: 150kW DC fast charging capable. Comes with an 11kW AC charger for home use.
• Service: Service intervals are 2 years or 30,000km. Tyres are the main consumable cost.

Raised Stance: 171mm clearance is decent for a "coupe." It handles rough patches better than a Tesla Model 3. However, visibility out the rear window is poor due to the sloping roof design—rely on the 360-degree cameras.

5-Star Euro NCAP rating. Volvo safety is legendary. Features Pilot Assist and City Safety (detects pedestrians, cyclists, large animals). The battery is protected by a safety cage.
