The 2023 Honda ZR-V is a brand new nameplate that fills the awkward gap between the compact Vezel and the growing CR-V. Launched in 2022/2023, it is based on the Civic chassis, which means it drives more like a sports hatchback than a traditional SUV. It is targeted at the driver who finds the Vezel too small but the CR-V too bulky and expensive.

The ZR-V (RZ series) keeps it simple with two potent choices:

• 1.5L VTEC Turbo (L15C): 176 HP. The same engine as the Civic and CR-V. It is punchy and reliable, paired with a CVT that simulates gear shifts nicely.
