The 2022 Subaru Chiffon (LA650F) is a badge-engineered Daihatsu Tanto. While the Chiffon nameplate was introduced in 2016, this 2nd Generation model (launched in July 2019) is built on the advanced DNGA platform. Its defining feature is the "Miracle Open Door"—the passenger side lacks a B-pillar, creating a massive 1,490mm wide opening when both doors are open. It redefines ease of access for families.

The Chiffon uses the proven Daihatsu KF engine family:

• L / G (Non-Turbo): 52 HP. STANDARD Sufficient for city errands. It uses a CVT gearbox tuned for smooth low-speed driving.
• Custom RS (Turbo): 64 HP. If you plan to carry 4 adults regularly or drive on highways, get the Turbo. The extra torque (100 Nm) is noticeable on hills.

• Long Slide Seat: The driver's seat slides back by 540mm, allowing the driver to tend to rear-seat passengers without exiting the car.
• Space: The "Super Height" roofline provides immense headroom. Rear seats slide and recline, offering limousine-like legroom when the boot is empty.

• Consumption: 20–22 km/l. The DNGA platform is lightweight and rigid, improving efficiency.
• Service: It is a Daihatsu. Parts like oil filters and brake pads are cheap and shared with the Toyota Pixis/Passo. However, the unique sliding door mechanism requires careful maintenance (keep the tracks clean).

City Only: At 150mm clearance, it handles city bumps fine. The small 14-inch wheels are not designed for rough roads. The pillarless side is structurally reinforced, so safety is not compromised, but the chassis flexes slightly more on very uneven terrain.

Comes with Smart Assist III (Stereo Cameras). Reliability is excellent. The powered sliding doors are the only potential long-term weak point if sand/grit gets into the mechanism.
