The 2022 Mazda 6 (formerly Atenza) is the sedan for people who enjoy driving. While the 1st Generation debuted in 2002 with "Zoom-Zoom" DNA, this 3rd Generation (launched in 2012) has matured into a genuine near-luxury contender. The 2022 model is the ultimate evolution of the chassis, featuring the "Black Tone Edition" and refined SkyActiv engines. It feels more expensive inside than a Camry and drives sharper than an Accord.

Mazda resists the CVT trend, sticking to a 6-speed Auto:

• 2.2L SkyActiv-D (Diesel): 190 HP / 450 Nm. RECOMMENDED The torque is addictive. It pulls like a freight train on the highway and offers incredible range (1000km+).
• 2.0L SkyActiv-G (Petrol): 156 HP. Smooth and reliable, but feels weak compared to the diesel. Good for strictly city use.
• 2.5L SkyActiv-G (Petrol): 190 HP. Available in higher trims (L Package). Offers a sportier gasoline experience without the complexity of a turbo.

• Near-Luxury: The "L Package" uses Nappa leather and real Sen wood trim. The minimalist dashboard design has aged beautifully. The 8-inch infotainment screen is small by 2024 standards but functional.
• Rear Space: Legroom is decent, though slightly less than a Camry. The sedan boot is deep (480 Litres), and the Wagon version offers massive utility for families.

• Consumption: 15–18 km/l (Diesel) vs 11–13 km/l (Petrol). The diesel is the efficiency king.
• Service: The SkyActiv-D engine requires specific low-ash oil (DL-1) and clean diesel. DPF issues can occur if driven only on short trips. Petrol models are bulletproof.
• Resale: It depreciates faster than a Toyota, making it a fantastic second-hand buy.

Clearance Star: At 165mm, it has one of the highest ground clearances in the sedan segment (higher than C-Class or 3 Series). It handles Kenyan speed bumps remarkably well for a saloon car. The 19-inch wheels on high trims look great but ride firmly.
