The 2020 Volvo S60 is the sedan for those who think different. While the S60 lineage began in 2000, this 3rd Generation (launched in 2019) is a landmark: it was the first Volvo built in the USA (South Carolina) and the first to completely ditch diesel engines. Built on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) shared with the XC90, it brings full-size luxury to the compact executive segment, challenging the C-Class and 3 Series with Scandinavian cool.

No diesels here, just potent petrols:

• T4 (2.0L Turbo): 190 HP. STANDARD The entry-level engine is punchy enough for daily use. It is Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) and pairs with an 8-speed automatic.
• T5 (2.0L Turbo): 250 HP. Available in FWD or AWD. It feels genuinely fast (0-100 in 6.5s) and is the sweet spot for performance.
• T8 (Plug-in Hybrid): 390 HP. Massive power, AWD, and short EV range. Complex and heavy, but incredibly fast.

• Best Seats: Volvo seats are widely regarded as the most comfortable in the industry. The S60 is no exception. Great for long trips to Nanyuki.
• Sensus System: The portrait-style touchscreen is beautiful but can be slow to boot up. Nearly all controls (including AC) are on the screen, which takes getting used to.

• Consumption: 10–12 km/l (T4). It is thirstier than a C200 or 320i because it lacks a mild-hybrid system in the 2020 model (added later).
• Service: Volvo parts are premium. Finding a specialist mechanic in Nairobi is easier now, but parts often need to be imported. Resale value is lower than German rivals.

Firm Ride: The S60 (especially R-Design) has a sporty, firm suspension. It handles beautifully but transmits bumps more than a non-AMG Mercedes. At 142mm clearance, you must be cautious on speed bumps.

It defines safety. City Safety (collision avoidance with steering support), Run-off Road Mitigation, and Oncoming Lane Mitigation are standard. It is a tank disguised as a sedan.
