The 2019 Toyota Noah, Voxy, and Esquire (R80 series) are the undisputed kings of Kenyan family transport. While they share the same chassis and engines, they target different vibes: The Noah is the friendly family hauler, the Voxy is the aggressive sporty choice (popular with youth), and the Esquire is the luxury chrome-laden executive shuttle. First introduced in 2001, this R80 generation (launched in 2014) refined the boxy MPV concept to perfection.

Two reliable powertrains drive the R80 series:

• 2.0L Valvematic (3ZR-FAE): 150 HP. STANDARD This naturally aspirated engine is robust and parts are everywhere. The Valvematic system improves fuel efficiency over the old VVT-i, but the controller can fail at high mileage (Ksh 30k fix).
• 1.8L Hybrid (2ZR-FXE): 98 HP (Engine) + Motor. The Prius engine in a van. Excellent for city traffic (18 km/l) but feels strained when fully loaded on the escarpment.

• 7 vs 8 Seats: The 7-seater features captain chairs in the middle row with a walk-through aisle. The 8-seater has a bench. For family comfort, the 7-seater is superior.
• Low Floor: The flat, low floor makes entry easy for children and grandparents. The massive sliding doors are electric on higher trims (Si/Zs/Gi).

• Consumption: 10–12 km/l (2.0L Petrol) vs 18–20 km/l (Hybrid).
• Service: It is a Toyota. Maintenance is cheap, predictable, and every mechanic knows the 3ZR engine inside out.
