The Nissan Roox (often badged as the Dayz Roox in earlier years) is Nissan’s answer to the Honda N-BOX. It is a "Super Height Wagon" Kei car designed to maximize interior volume within a tiny footprint. The 2019 model (BA1 Generation) is a result of the NMKV joint venture between Nissan and Mitsubishi (sister to the eK Space). It is gaining popularity in Kenya as a high-tech, fuel-sipping alternative to the Vitz for city errands.

Like all Kei cars, engine size is limited to 660cc.

• 660cc Turbo (Code: B44A / B45A) RECOMMENDED
  Produces 64 HP. Typically found in the "Highway Star" grade. The turbocharger is essential for Nairobi’s altitude; without it, the car will struggle on inclines like Museum Hill.
• 660cc Non-Turbo (Code: B44A)
  Produces 52 HP. Best suited for flat coastal towns like Mombasa or Malindi. It feels strained at highway speeds.

• The "Mini Serena" Feel: The Roox mimics the layout of the larger Nissan Serena. It features dual sliding doors (often electric), roll-up sunshades, and a ceiling fan (Nanoe technology) to circulate air to the rear.
• Space: The rear seats slide forward and back by 26cm. You can prioritize legroom (limousine-like) or boot space depending on your needs.

• Around View Monitor: Many 2019 models come with Nissan’s 360-degree camera system displayed in the rearview mirror or the main screen—a massive safety plus.
• ProPilot: Higher grades feature Nissan's ProPilot assist (adaptive cruise control), though its functionality is limited on Kenyan roads without clear markings.

• Hybrid Economy: 20–22 km/l (S-Hybrid system)
• Maintenance: Cheap. Uses the BR06 engine which is simple to service.
• Spares: Body parts (glass, lights) can be tricky to find locally compared to Toyota, but service parts are available.

• Ground Clearance: At 140mm, it is low. Drivers must be cautious on speed bumps. We recommend fitting slightly higher profile tires (e.g., 165/65R14) to gain a few millimeters.
• Stability: Being a tall, narrow box, it is sensitive to crosswinds on open highways like the Southern Bypass. Keep speeds under 100km/h.

The Roox is robust for its size. The S-Hybrid system is a mild hybrid (smart alternator), so battery replacement costs are much lower than a full hybrid like a Prius. The CVT gearbox requires timely fluid changes (every 40k km) to avoid "whining" noises.

The Nissan Roox is an excellent city runabout that feels larger than it is. It offers premium features like 360-cameras and electric doors at a budget price point. While the Honda N-BOX is slightly more refined, the Roox is often cheaper to buy, offering better value for money.
