2019 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ: A Carimports.co.ke Review
The Big Picture
The 2019 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is not just a car; it is an event. Origin: Italy (Sant'Agata Bolognese). First Generation: The Aventador lineage began in 2011. Current Generation: Production ended in 2022 (The "Ultimae" was the final edition). The SVJ (Super Veloce Jota) is the most extreme, track-focused version ever built. It held the Nürburgring lap record for production cars (6:44.97). In Kenya, it is the ultimate status symbol, a V12-powered fighter jet for the road.

Engine Options & Model Codes
The last of the dying breed:
- 6.5L V12 (L539): 770 HP / 720 Nm. Ideally, this engine needs no introduction. It is naturally aspirated, revs to 8,500 rpm, and spits blue flames from the high-mounted exhaust. It uses a single-clutch ISR (Independent Shifting Rod) gearbox which shifts with brutal violence in Corsa mode.
Interior & Practicality
- Carbon Skin: The interior is stripped out. Door handles are straps. The floor is often bare carbon fiber. It features "Carbon Skin" fabric which is lighter than Alcantara.
- Zero Visibility: You cannot see out the back. The rear wing and engine slats block everything. You drive by looking forward and trusting the side mirrors (and the screaming V12).
Infotainment & Technology
The infotainment is an older Audi MMI system re-skinned for Lamborghini. It supports Apple CarPlay, but honestly, if you are playing with the radio in an SVJ, you are driving it wrong. The real technology is the ALA 2.0 (Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva) which actively stalls the front and rear wings to vector air for cornering grip.
Fuel Efficiency & Ownership Costs
Consumption: 3–4 km/L. It has an 85-litre tank, but it drains it in under 300km if you drive spiritedly.
Service: An annual service can cost Ksh 300,000+. Tyres (Pirelli P Zero Corsa) are bespoke and extremely expensive. Clutch life on the ISR gearbox is limited in stop-and-go traffic.
Suitability for Kenyan Roads
Lift System is Life: The hydraulic nose lift raises the front by 40mm. It is critical for Kenyan speed bumps. The car is 2.2 meters wide, making it stressful on narrow roads like Limuru Road. It is best enjoyed on wide highways or the track.
Safety & Reliability
The carbon fiber monocoque is incredibly strong. Reliability of the V12 is surprisingly good as it is a proven unit, but the complex active aero and hydraulic systems require specialized maintenance not available at your local garage.

The Ci Verdict
Who is this for? The collector who wants the absolute pinnacle of the naturally aspirated V12 era. It is a piece of history.
Who is it NOT for? Anyone with a bad back or a fear of unwanted attention.
