The 2019 Jaguar XF (X260) is the antidote to the cold, clinical efficiency of the German trio (E-Class, 5 Series, A6). Origin: UK (Castle Bromwich). Built on an aluminium-intensive architecture, it is lighter and more agile than its size suggests. In Kenya, driving a "Jag" still carries a level of prestige and old-money charm that a Mercedes simply cannot replicate.

The Ingenium engine family powers the 2019 range:

• 2.0d Ingenium Diesel STANDARD
  180 HP / 430 Nm. This is the most common import. It provides massive torque and excellent fuel economy (20 km/l on highway).
• 2.0t Ingenium Petrol (25t)
  250 HP. Smooth, quiet, and brisk (0-100 in 6.6s). It lacks the range of the diesel but is cheaper to service.

• The "Handshake": The rotary gear selector rises from the console when you start the engine, and the air vents rotate open. It is pure theater.
• Space: The long wheelbase (2,960mm) means rear legroom is generous, better than the C-Class or 3 Series. The boot (540 Litres) is deep and practical.

The 10-inch Touch Pro system is standard on 2019 models. It is a vast improvement over the old system, supporting pinch-to-zoom maps and smartphone integration. However, it can still be laggy compared to BMW's iDrive.

• Consumption: 15–18 km/l (Diesel). The lightweight aluminium body makes it very frugal.
• Service: Ingenium engines have timing chain issues if oil changes are neglected. Ensure full service history. Parts are readily available from specialist Jaguar/Land Rover stockists in Nairobi.

• Clearance: 135mm. It is low. You must be careful.
• Ride Quality: Jaguar suspension tuning is legendary. It flows over bumps that would crash a BMW. It is the most comfortable car in its class for Kenyan roads (if you avoid the massive 20-inch wheels).

5-Star Euro NCAP. Reliability has improved under Tata ownership, but electronics can be temperamental. Check that the rising gear selector works smoothly.
