2019 Honda N-Van: A Carimports.co.ke Review

The Big Picture

The 2019 Honda N-Van is a revolution in the Kei van segment. Introduced in 2018 to replace the Acty/Vamos, it is the first commercial Kei van designed from the ground up for modern logistics. Its party trick is the "Double Big Open" door: the passenger side has no B-pillar. When you open the front and sliding doors, you get a massive 1580mm wide opening. This makes loading boxes from the curb incredibly fast.

Quick Specs

Payload 350 kg
Tank Size 27 Litres
Power 52 - 63 HP
Seating 4 (Commercial)

Engine Options & Model Codes

Based on the N-Box platform, it uses the S07B engine:

  • Non-Turbo (G / L): 52 HP. RECOMMENDED Sufficient for city deliveries. It pairs with a CVT or a rare 6-speed manual.
  • +STYLE FUN Turbo: 63 HP. The "lifestyle" version. It has round LED headlights and a turbo engine. It is faster but more expensive. Great if you want a van that doubles as a weekend camper.

Interior & Practicality

  • The Flat Floor: Not only do the rear seats fold flat, but the passenger seat also folds completely flat into the floor. This allows you to carry pipes or timber up to 2.5 meters long inside the cabin!
  • Driver Focused: The driver's seat is comfortable, but the passenger and rear seats are thin "jump seats" designed for temporary use. Do not buy this for family transport.

Fuel Efficiency & Ownership Costs

  • Consumption: 18–20 km/l. The CVT gearbox keeps the engine in the optimal range.
  • Service: Basic service is cheap (S07B engine parts are shared with N-Box). However, body panels (especially the complex passenger door mechanism) are unique and expensive to replace.
  • Tyres: Uses 145/80R12 LT tyres. Cheap and widely available.

Suitability for Kenyan Roads

Clearance: At 155mm, it is low. The long wheelbase means it can scrape on large speed bumps. It is front-wheel drive (unlike the RWD Suzuki Every), so it struggles on steep, slippery mud roads when fully loaded. It is best for paved city streets.

Safety & Reliability

Comes with Honda Sensing as standard (Collision Mitigation Braking, Lane Keep Assist). This makes it one of the safest commercial vans in Kenya. The pillarless side is reinforced with high-tensile steel, passing strict crash tests.

💰 2019 Honda N-Van Price in Kenya

The Ci Verdict

Who is this for? Florists, bakers, and couriers who need to load from the sidewalk quickly. Who is it NOT for? Anyone who carries heavy loads on muddy roads—rear wheel drive vans (like Suzuki Every) have better traction when loaded.
