2019 Honda Fit (GK): A Carimports.co.ke Review

The Big Picture

The 2019 Honda Fit is the final model year of the highly successful 3rd Generation (GK Series), which debuted in 2013. It is widely considered the benchmark for hatchback practicality. Its fuel tank is located under the front seats, freeing up massive space in the rear for the famous "Magic Seats." It offers the utility of a small station wagon in the footprint of a Vitz.

Powertrain & Performance

Honda offers two primary engines, each with very different transmission technologies:

  • 1.3L Petrol (L13B): Produces 100 hp. Paired with a standard CVT. It is punchy for its size and very reliable. Returns 16–18 km/l.
  • 1.5L Hybrid (i-DCD): Produces 135 hp. It uses a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) instead of a CVT. This makes it sporty and fast, but the DCT is mechanically complex and expensive to repair if it fails.

Design & Practicality

The "Magic Seats" are the selling point: they fold up (Tall Mode) to carry plants, or fold flat (Utility Mode) to carry a bicycle. Ground clearance is 135mm, which is lower than the Nissan Note. We strongly advise fitting 185/65R15 tires to gain a little extra height for Kenyan speed bumps.

Reliability & Maintenance

The 1.3L Petrol model is extremely low-maintenance (standard CVT care). The Hybrid's DCT gearbox is the main concern; it relies on specific fluid (Honda DW-1/ATF-Z1 is NOT suitable; use proper DCT fluid). Shuddering at low speeds is a sign of clutch wear. For rural use, the 1.3L Petrol is the safer, more robust choice.

💰 2019 Honda Fit Price in Kenya (Import vs Local)

The Fit holds its value better than the Vitz or Demio due to its unique practicality.

2019 Trim Level Est. Import Cost Avg. Dealer Price Est. Difference
1.3 G (Petrol) Ksh 1.2M - 1.35M Ksh 1.6M - 1.7M ~Ksh 350k
1.5 Hybrid L-Package Ksh 1.4M - 1.6M Ksh 1.9M - 2.1M ~Ksh 500k

The Ci Verdict

The 2019 Honda Fit is the Swiss Army Knife of cars. No other vehicle in this class can carry as much cargo. If you run a small business or frequently carry bulky items, the Fit is peerless. Stick to the 1.3L petrol if you want zero maintenance headaches.
