The 2018 Toyota FJ Cruiser is a modern classic that refuses to die. Originally launched in 2006 as a retro homage to the FJ40, it was so popular that Toyota kept building it for Japan and the Middle East long after it was discontinued in the USA. The 2018-2022 models are the most desirable, often featuring the "Final Edition" beige paint job. It is built on the sturdy Land Cruiser Prado 120/150 frame, offering legendary durability with unique style.

• 4.0L V6 (1GR-FE Dual VVT-i): 270 HP / 380 Nm. STANDARD The updated Dual VVT-i version (2010+) is powerful and reliable. It pairs with a 5-speed automatic. No diesel option was ever made, which is the only downside for Kenyan buyers.

• Waterproof Seats: The interior is designed to be hosed down (almost). Rubber floor mats and water-resistant fabric seats are standard. Switches are chunky, designed to be used with gloves.
• Suicide Doors: The rear "clamshell" doors open backwards (like a Mazda RX-8) to aid access to the rear seats. It is quirky but less practical than 4 standard doors in tight parking spots.

• Consumption: 7–8 km/l. It is a brick with a 4.0L engine. Aerodynamics are non-existent.
• Service: Parts are shared with the Prado J120/J150 and Hilux. Maintenance is easy and affordable. Every mechanic in Kenya can fix a 1GR engine.
• Resale: Values are appreciating. A clean "Final Edition" model is an investment that will likely sell for more than you bought it for in 5 years.

Off-Road Goat: With short overhangs, 245mm clearance, and A-TRAC (Active Traction Control), it is a beast off-road. Many come with a factory rear diff lock. Visibility is poor (like looking out of a pillbox), so use the mirrors and cameras.

Safety is decent but dated (no Toyota Safety Sense on most). Reliability is legendary. It is widely considered one of the most reliable vehicles Toyota has ever made.
