The Big Picture
The 2021 Jaguar E-Pace is the compact SUV for those who find the Range Rover Evoque too ubiquitous. Launched in 2017, the E-Pace shares its DNA with the Evoque but wraps it in curvaceous, F-Type-inspired styling. The 2021 Facelift is significant: it moved the car onto the new PTA platform to improve stiffness and refinement, and introduced the Pivi Pro infotainment system, fixing the biggest complaints about the early models.

Engine Options & Model Codes
Engines are shared with Land Rover (Ingenium family):
- D165 / D200 (2.0L Diesel): 163 HP / 204 HP. STANDARD The D200 is the sweet spot. It offers plenty of torque (430 Nm) for overtaking and decent fuel economy.
- P200 / P250 (2.0L Petrol): 200 HP / 249 HP. Smooth and quiet, but the E-Pace is heavy (1.8 tonnes), so petrol consumption is high (8-9 km/l).
Interior & Practicality
- Pivi Pro: The 11.4-inch curved glass screen is beautiful and responsive. It supports OTA updates. The "cricket ball" stitching on the gear lever is a nice Jaguar touch.
- Space: It is wider than most rivals, giving good shoulder room. However, the sloping roofline eats into rear headroom. The boot (577 Litres) is surprisingly practical.
Fuel Efficiency & Ownership Costs
- Consumption: 12–14 km/l (D200). Mild hybrid tech (MHEV) helps slightly in traffic.
- Service: Expensive. Parts are shared with the Evoque but prices carry the "Jaguar" premium. The 9-speed automatic is reliable if serviced correctly.
- Resale: Jaguars depreciate heavily in Kenya. This makes them a fantastic bargain on the used market but painful if you bought new.
Suitability for Kenyan Roads
Sporty Ride: The E-Pace is tuned to be sporty. It rides firmly, especially on the optional 20-inch wheels. It corners flat but you will feel the bumps on rough roads. 204mm clearance is decent, but it is not a Discovery Sport.
Safety & Reliability
5-Star Euro NCAP rating. Includes Lane Keep Assist and Driver Condition Monitor. The Facelift model (2021+) fixed many of the electrical glitches of the early models.
