2019 Honda Accord in Kenya: Review, Prices & Specs

2019 Honda Accord: A Carimports.co.ke Review

The Big Picture

The 2019 Honda Accord (10th Generation) is the sedan that refuses to be boring. While the Toyota Camry plays it safe, the Accord adopts a sweeping fastback roofline that mimics the Audi A7. First launched in 1976 as a compact hatch, the Accord has grown into a full-size executive cruiser. This generation (launched 2018) is lower, wider, and lighter than its predecessor, marking a return to Honda's sporty roots.

Engine Options & Model Codes

Honda replaced the old 2.4L and V6 with high-output turbos:

  • 1.5L VTEC Turbo (L15BE): 192 HP / 260 Nm. STANDARD Don't underestimate it. It produces more torque than the old 2.4L engine and delivers it from just 1,600 rpm. Paired with a CVT that mimics gear shifts surprisingly well.
  • 2.0L VTEC Turbo (K20C4): 252 HP / 370 Nm. Detuned from the Civic Type R. It is a rocket ship disguised as a family sedan. Paired with a 10-speed automatic.

Interior & Practicality

  • Class-Leading Space: The wheelbase stretch gives the Accord 10th Gen massive rear legroom (40.4 inches), rivaling luxury limousines. You can cross your legs in the back.
  • Modern Tech: The floating 8-inch touchscreen features physical volume and tuning knobs (a welcome return after the button-less previous generation). Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on most trims.

Fuel Efficiency & Ownership Costs

  • Consumption: 12–14 km/l (1.5T). The efficiency is excellent for a car of this size.
  • Service: The 1.5T engine is sensitive to oil dilution (fuel mixing with oil) if driven only on short trips. Regular oil changes with high-quality synthetic are mandatory.
  • Parts: Honda parts in Kenya are slightly pricier than Toyota, but widely available. Body panels for this generation are expensive due to the complex curves.

Suitability for Kenyan Roads

Low Rider: The Accord sits very low (145mm). The seating position is sporty and hunkered down. While stable on the highway, it requires care over bumps. The long wheelbase means the belly can scrape on high speed bumps.

Safety & Reliability

Honda Sensing is standard on all trims (Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation). It is a Top Safety Pick. Reliability is generally good, though early 1.5T engines had some head gasket issues in cold climates (less of a worry in Kenya, but worth noting).

The Ci Verdict

Who is this for? The executive who wants a car that looks fast even when parked, and values handling over badge prestige. Who is it NOT for? Those who live on rough roads—buy a CR-V instead.
