2019 Mitsubishi eK Wagon in Kenya: Review, Prices & Specs
2019 Mitsubishi eK Wagon: A Carimports.co.ke Review
The Big Picture
The 2019 Mitsubishi eK Wagon (4th Generation) is the twin of the Nissan Dayz. Launched in March 2019, it represents a massive leap in quality and technology over the older B11W model. It was the first Kei car to feature semi-autonomous driving tech (MI-PILOT). While the nameplate started in 2001, this latest generation proves that "small" doesn't have to mean "basic."
Quick Specs
Engine Options & Model Codes
The 4th Gen eK switched to the new BR06 engine series:
- BR06 (Naturally Aspirated): 52 HP. STANDARD Unlike the Dayz/eK X which offer turbo hybrids, the standard eK Wagon is purely NA. It is tuned for city efficiency and smooth CVT operation.
Interior & Practicality
- Digital AC: The touch-panel climate control looks premium and is easy to clean. The dashboard is two-tone, giving a light and airy feel.
- Storage: It features a nifty slide-out drawer under the passenger seat for shoe storage—perfect for changing out of heels or work boots.
Fuel Efficiency & Ownership Costs
- Consumption: 21–24 km/l. The new CVT has a wider ratio, lowering RPMs at cruising speed.
- Service: Extremely affordable. It shares almost everything with the Nissan Dayz. Oil changes cost peanuts.
- Parts: Body parts are specific to the 2019+ model. Do not confuse it with the older 2013-2018 model; the headlights are different.
Suitability for Kenyan Roads
Clearance: At 155mm, it is standard for the class. It is fine for tarmac and well-maintained marram roads. The suspension is softer than the previous generation, absorbing bumps better.
Safety & Reliability
Features e-Assist (Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning). It scored very well in JNCAP crash tests. Reliability is solid, as it uses proven Nissan/Mitsubishi joint-venture tech.

The Ci Verdict
Who is this for? The Uber/Bolt Lite driver or the university student who needs a cheap, safe, and modern runabout. Who is it NOT for? Speed demons—it is a 52HP car, so patience is required on hills.
