HISTORY AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER FROM JAPAN
Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors prides themselves in the manufacture of this successful automobile. Many might not know that originally, it was known as MITSUBISHI AIRTREK back in 2001.
One may wonder why AIRTREK? The name was birthed by the vehicles unique ability to chauffer its passengers on adventurous trips and leave them feeling “free-as-a-bird”.
Then come to OUTLANDER. This too was not a random name change; this name evoked the feeling of going OUT to adventure on to new unknown places in the unending search for adventure.
To date, the MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER has had three generations;
FIRST GENERATION - CU/ZE/ZF (2001-2005)
This is when we had the AIRTREK. Came in 2.0 L Engine with 126ps (93KW) and the 2.4 L Engine with 139ps (102KW) with a 4-speed transmission.
SECOND GENERATION- CW/ZH/ZG (2006-2012)
In October 2006, Japanese Automaker dropped the AIRTREK in favour of the more global name OUTLANDER.
Under the hood came a 2.4 L 16 Valve Engine. A major notable improvement was the new CVT and also the two piece tail gate. One folds downwards for easy loading while acting as a bench.
During this period, the Mitsubishi Outlander underwent two major face lifts in the years 2008 and 2010.
Fast forward;
THIRD GENERATION- GF/GG/ZF/ZK (2012- Present)
This model is lighter compared to its predecessor therefore has better fuel economy.
Notable changes are the Power steering wheel, 4 disc brakes each on one wheel, Driver / Passenger airbags, curtain airbags and front side torso airbags, traction control among many new high tech changes.
Under the hood comes a 2.4L Engine 4WD Petrol and a 2.0 L Engine 2WD Petrol.
It has since received other facelifts in 2014, 2015 and 2018.
Also the 3rd Generation covers the all new PHEV (Plug-In-Hybrid-Electric-Vehicle) from the year 2012.
