TOYOTA LAND CRUISER PRADO is a full-size five door SUV whose manufacturer is Toyota Japan.
This comes as an able 4 wheel drive off-roader. In the Spanish language, Prado means meadow.
Its first year of inception in to the market was 1984 as a short body J70 Series. Later as the market base grew, April 1990 saw the rebirth of the short version to the new type 5 door Prado.
The Meadow is currently in its fourth generation featuring various changes to both the interior and exterior.
These have brought about improved off-road capabilities, aesthetics and comfort. With the recent advent of technology, Toyota has come up with the ingenious Toyota Safety sense System incorporated to the most recent models.
This is a system that interacts with the driver to enhance safety and convenience when behind the wheel. Among these changes are the 3600 camera, Blind spot monitoring and lane departure warnings among others.

The Land Cruiser Prado is in its 4th Generation since the first year of inception.
1st Generation – (J70) 1990- 1996
It is commonly called the 70 Series. It came with a 2.4 L diesel engine which was turbo charged. It came with a redesigned front grille and head lights.
2nd Generation – (J90) 1996-2002
This series brought with it the ABS technology and front airbags. It came with either a 3.4L V6 or 3.0L Turbo charged diesel engine under the hood.
3rd Generation - (J120) 2002-2009
The 120 series dared to move away from the conventional 4X4 SUV that was to an even sporty version of the Prado. The wheel base was expanded to improve the comfort of it’s passengers.
We see under the hood three engine types; 3.4L V6, 3.0L Diesel Turbo charged and what later became the conventional 2.7L engine.
4th Generation – (J150) SEPT 2009-PRESENT
This is the most recent generation which has seen major milestones. Among them are various facelifts on the exterior and interior.
Under the hood is the 2.7L petrol engine. Later in 2015, Toyota Japan introduced the coveted 2.8L diesel Turbo Charged engine.
In the same year, Toyota Japan brought an all new facelift with the signature teardrop headlights.
Fast forward to late 2017, the engineers redesigned the front grille. Notable changes can be seen on the bonnet, headlights and grille. Also the interior received an improvement with improved visibility by lowering dashboard components like air conditioner outlet.
The new Toyota Safety Sense p comes as standard to the units in this segment. Year 2020, ushers in improved fuel efficiency for the 2.7L engine. The maximum output for the 2.8L Diesel engine is capped at 204ps.
The TSS has a new feature for cyclist and night time pedestrian detection system.
DESIGN UPDATES FOR PRADO 150 SERIES
This is the latest facelift available on the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado whose year of production is 2017/September.
Being the more preferred version compared to the former facelift with tear drop headlights, it is now available for import to the Kenyan market at the lowest Import Duty tariffs.
