2024 Mitsubishi Mirage in Kenya: Review, Prices & Specs
2024 Mitsubishi Mirage: A Carimports.co.ke Review
The Big Picture
The 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage is the cockroach of the automotive world—it simply refuses to die. Originally launched in 1978, this 6th Generation model has been with us since 2012. The 2019/2024 updates added the aggressive "Dynamic Shield" grille (making it look like a baby Pajero Sport) and updated infotainment. It is basic, loud, and unrefined, but it is also honest, cheap, and virtually indestructible.
Quick Specs
Engine Options & Model Codes
Simplicity is key here:
- 1.2L MIVEC (3A92): 78 HP / 100 Nm. STANDARD This 3-cylinder engine vibrates at idle and roars under acceleration, but it is incredibly fuel-efficient and simple to repair. It is paired with a CVT (INVECS-III).
Interior & Practicality
- Basic but Functional: The dashboard is hard plastic, but the 2024 update adds a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (on higher trims). It has everything you need, nothing you don't.
- Space: It fits 4 adults comfortably. The boot is decent (235 Litres), expandable by folding the rear seats (though they don't fold completely flat).
Fuel Efficiency & Ownership Costs
- Consumption: 20–22 km/l. It sips fuel like a bird.
- Service: Parts are available via Simba Corp or independent stockists. It is one of the cheapest cars to maintain in Kenya. 14-inch tyres cost peanuts.
- Resale: It depreciates, but because the entry price is so low, you don't lose much absolute money. Great for first-time buyers.
Suitability for Kenyan Roads
Rough Road Ready: Surprisingly, yes. With 160mm clearance and a short wheelbase, it handles speed bumps and potholes better than a Vitz or Demio. The suspension is soft and long-travel. It feels flimsy, but it rarely breaks.
Safety & Reliability
4-Star ANCAP rating (2013 test). Newer models have Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) and Lane Departure Warning. It is basic, but the structure is sound. Reliability is absolute—it is too simple to break.

The Ci Verdict
Who is this for? The Uber driver or first-time buyer who wants the lowest possible running costs and a "new car" smell for under 2M. Who is it NOT for? Anyone who cares about refinement, sound insulation, or speed.
