The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2) is the "Gentleman's Jeep." It represents the final and most refined years of the WK2 generation (before the new WL launched in 2021). It shares its chassis DNA with the Mercedes-Benz ML-Class (from the Daimler-Chrysler era), giving it a solid, planted feel on the highway that the Wrangler lacks. In Kenya, it is a statement of understated American luxury.

Smooth power is the name of the game:

• 3.6L Pentastar V6 STANDARD
  295 HP / 352 Nm. Paired with the 8-speed ZF Automatic. This engine is bulletproof if maintained. It offers enough power to overtake trucks on the escarpment without breaking a sweat.
• 5.7L HEMI V8
  360 HP. Available in the "Overland" and "Summit" trims. It sounds glorious but will drink fuel at an alarming rate (4-5 km/l).

• American Comfort: The seats are wide and plush, like armchairs. The "Summit" trim features quilted leather and open-pore wood, rivaling the BMW X5 for luxury.
• No 7 Seats: Unlike the Discovery, the Grand Cherokee is strictly a 5-seater. This means the boot is huge (1,027 Litres), perfect for huge shopping hauls.

The Uconnect 8.4-inch system is standard. The 2019 update introduced a flush-mounted screen with higher resolution glass. The Harman Kardon 19-speaker system (optional) is one of the best factory audio systems available.

• Consumption: 7–9 km/l (V6). It is heavy and has a large engine. Budget accordingly.
• Service: The V6 is easy to work on. However, the Quadra-Lift air suspension (if equipped) is expensive to fix. We recommend the steel coil suspension for long-term reliability in Kenya.

• Quadra-Trac II: This 4WD system uses sensors to detect slip and can send 100% of torque to the axle with traction. It is very capable in mud.
• Ride Quality: It rides heavily and confidently, smoothing out bad roads better than a Prado, though it lacks the Prado's sheer durability.

By 2019, most of the WK2's electrical gremlins were sorted. It is a mature platform. Safety is excellent, with 7 airbags and a rigid chassis.

Who is this for? The executive who wants comfort but needs 4WD capability that actually works. Who is it NOT for? Those who prioritize fuel economy above all else.
